July 5, 2017 - The Department of Health – ARMM in coordination with Provincial Health Office Lanao Del Sur, Department of Education-ARMM and Islamic City of Marawi launch the campaign of “An Egg a Day is Ok! for the children of Saguiaran evacuation center dubbed as “Araw ng mga Bata sa Saguiran”.
The initiative is part of the 43rd Nutrition Month Celebration with this years’ theme Healthy diet, gawing Habit-FOR LIFE! The aim is to increase awareness on the benefits of eating an egg a day which contain of high quality protein, 13 essential vitamins and minerals. Nutrition research suggests eggs can play a role in weight management, muscle strength, healthy pregnancy, brain function and eye health. In fact, according to recent review eating one egg a day reduces risk of stroke by 12 percent.
The target is from 6 months to 10 years old, pregnant, and lactating women will receive a boiled egg a day for 30 days. Around 900 children and mothers benefitted from the campaign. Along with the egg is a lunch packs, multivitamins, toys, and malunggay ice cream as a giveaway. To further bring joy and laughter to the children, DOH-ARMM invited a magician where everyone including the older people enjoyed the different tricks prepared. This activity is simultaneously launched at Badac evacuation camp, Marawi City.
The children party was led by Secretary Sinolinding who concurrently acts as the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator for ARMM, senior officials of DOH - ARMM, Heads of IPHO Lanao Del Sur and City Health Officers were present in the activity.
