Butuan City- Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in Del Carmen, Siargao Islands, Surigao Del Norte did not miss to engaged to a conversation with the National Nutrition Council Caraga personnel’s during its visit on 3 December 2021 in said town.

As an opportunity, NNC Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo and Nutrition Officer, Raphael P. Ochavo provided a discussion on the BNSs welfare and benefits.

The topics focused on medical and survivorship assistance, BNS Eligibility, creation of BNS federation and capability development among the health and nutrition workers.

BNS Margarita of Barangay del Carmen expressed on the technical capability of the BNSs in the delivery of nutrition related services. In response, Dr. Labordo shared that in order to confidently provide necessary information to the individual, family and community as a whole, a training is necessary.

Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Mr. Gil C. Bandoy shared that he plans to conduct the Basic Course for the BNSs training in 2022.

Included topics in the training are the BNS program, basic concepts on food and nutrition, nutrition program management and the BNS in action. Likewise, simulation exercises on documentation and conduct of nutritional assessment are lined-up.
