Butuan City- On a virtual dialogue with the punong barangays in Caraga region, Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo shared the topic, “Usapang PPAN sa Barangay Programang PangNutrisyon Gawing Mahusay” on December 6, 2021 during the Day 1 of the Regional Dialogue with Punong Barangays: Enabling Nutrition Devolution via Zoom conferencing.

The topic articulated the increased recognition of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and its connection to barangay nutrition action plan (BNAP)s. Likewise, it shared the functions of the barangay nutrition committee and roles of Punong Barangays, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and other committee members in the achievement of BNAP and PPAN targets.

In the formulation of the BNAP, Dr. Labordo emphasized to identify activities that are listed in the three prong programs, the nutrition specific, nutrition sensitive and enabling programs.

To achieve the PPAN outcome targets, he shared actions through having a better nutrition among pregnant mothers, better birth outcomes, better exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and better overall calorie intake.

Additionally, his presentation provided actions that the youth sector can share and support to resolving malnutrition.

Finally, with the Mandanas-Garcia ruling opportunities for nutrition program implementation shall be put emphasis to include: establishing of the First 1,000 days program; increasing coverage and track progress of BNAP; establishment of information system; and increase allocation for capacity building activities and allowance for the barangay nutrition action officers, BNSs and other barangay and health nutrition workers, the discussion added. #NASLabordo
