Butuan City- The Regional Nutrition Cluster chaired by the National Nutrition Council visited the typhoon Odette ravaged towns in Surigao del Norte on 22-24 December 2021.

Joining the Nutrition Cluster are from the Department of Health and the Provincial Nutrition Office of Surigao del Norte. The group visited the municipalities of Sison, Gigaquit, Placer, Bacuag, Claver, Tubod and Alegria all in the Province of Surigao del Norte.

During the monitoring, the said towns are busy in the response activities to include repacking and distribution of relief goods to the affected families.

The conduct of the visit and monitoring is aimed at ensuring that the vulnerable children and mothers are taken cared of, likewise, advisories regarding installation of breastfeeding corners and no milk formula donations are provided.

In Surigao City, the team visited the evacuation centers and randomly assessed children 6 months to 5 years old for possible risk of malnutrition using the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC).

The Regional Nutrition Cluster will schedule a meeting after the Christmas holidays to discuss nutrition commodities, logistics needed and other related matters. #NASLabordo
