SDS TK DSPButuan City- The National Nutrition Council Caraga conducted a refresher on the Tutok Kainan – Dietary Supplementation Program for the nutrition action officers and the staff of the Provincial Nutrition Office of Surigao del Sur on 20 January 2022 via Zoom Conferencing.

The virtual orientation shared about the Republic Act No. 11148 or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act, a law which scale up the national and local health and nutrition programs through a strengthened integrated strategy for maternal, neonatal, and child health and nutrition in the First One Thousand Days.

PNFP Julianne Janine Carrillo further discussed further the notable features of RA 11148 which run through the package of services that refers to the first 1,000 days strategy. She highlighted that nutrition is significant during pregnancy and infancy, these periods are crucial for the formation of the brain, laying the foundation for the development of cognitive, motor, and socio-emotional skills throughout childhood and adulthood.

All sectors are encouraged to have a dynamic collaboration within communities, among government sectors, and with the private sector so that a better future for the community will be achieved.

Along with the meeting is the discussion on the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program which provided the objectives, components of the program, roles, and responsibilities of the province and the local government units. The target LGUs are requested to submit an updated master list of 6-23 months before the month of February. The DSP TK will now be implemented via dry and wet feeding schemes,

The Tutok Kainan is part of the National Dietary Supplementation Program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN 2017-2022) which aims to prevent stunting by giving nutritious food commodities to nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children 6-23 months old by improving the quality and quantity of food and nutrient intakes and utilization of related ECCD-F1K services. PNFP JJCarrillo
