Tagana an TS OdetteButuan City- The fifth class Municipality of Tagana-an in Surigao del Norte needs support in terms of reorganizing and revitalizing the local Nutrition Clusters as to strengthen the advocacy on infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices in the said town.

This was shared by Lucila O. Buladaco the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Tagana-an during the visit of the Regional Nutrition Cluster led by NNC OIC Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo on 10 January 2021.

As of the visit the municipality has five (5) evacuation centers located in Sampaguita Evacuation Center, Lower Libas Covered Court, Salvacion Elementary School, Union Elementary School and Talavera School in Poblacion Tagana-an.

Based on the nutrition initial needs assessment, the municipality has to mobilized the IYCF groups so that no further malnutrition deterioration shall be recorded.

Appropriate quality package of nutrition interventions shall be lined up to include supplementary feeding, micronutrient supplementation, integrated management of acute malnutrition, nutrition counselling and conduct of capacity development on nutrition related activities and other nutrition related services.

Among the vulnerable groups who need priority services during disasters are the children, pregnant, lactating, senior citizens and the persons with disabilities.

The municipality of Tagana-an has 14 barangays with 2,824 families displaced during the onslaught of typhoon Odette in 16 December 2021. #NASLabordo
