Butuan City- On 20 January 2022 Tandag City alarmed with the fire incident affecting about 118 families at Purok Kalipayan Barangay Bongtud of said city.
City Nutrition Action Officer Reyveen John Geli activated the City Nutrition Cluster through a direct response of blanket feeding in the evacuation center at the Tandag City Gymnasium, Surigao del Sur.
Within 72 hours response, the cluster accounted the evacuees focusing on the vulnerable population, the children, pregnant and the lactating mothers. Utilizing the nutrition initial needs assessment (NINA), the group determined children who are with normal nutritional assessment and children that needs immediate care. The group utilized the same tool to assess the nutritional status of pregnant mothers.
After the assessment, the team rendered minimum service package for nutrition to the identified recipients which include nutri-pak (food supplements for pregnant and children) and multivitamins distribution.
Further, the Nutrition Cluster mobilized the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) community support group which aim to ensure the promotion, protection and support breastfeeding and installed lactation station inside the camp. The Cluster together with the Barangay Nutrition in Emergencies cluster strictly implemented the "No milk donations policy".
Operation response and monitoring of needs by the local government unit of Tandag and with the support operation of the City Nutrition Office in terms of nutrition needs and assistance is ongoing. #RJGeli/NASLabordo
