Surigao City--To further prevent malnutrition among children, Samaritan's Purse together with the Nutrition Cluster is conducting a whole day Crash Course training on Health and Nutrition in Emergency in the Province of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands starting February 2022 up to first week of March 2022.
Topics lined up are: Simplified Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition or PIMAM, Family Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), Maternal Nutrition and Infant Young Child Feeding in Emergences (MNIYCF-E), EO 51 or the Philippine Milk Code, Micronutrient powder (MNP) and Immunization.
The crash course is aimed to heighten the skills and awareness of the health and nutrition staff on the importance of First 1000 Days of Life, exclusive breastfeeding, nutrition in emergencies, immediate treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) identified, proper handwashing and presentation of the guidelines on how to utilized Ready to Used Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and Micronutrient Powder (MNP).
The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) are vital participant in the said training. This is not only because he/she is the focal person as far as nutrition is concerned, but also because he/she is perceived to be knowledgeable and ready to respond by all means on Nutrition in Emergencies.
The said training was able to capacitate 62 Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Surigao City, and other more in local government units of Surigao Province and Dinagat Islands. #LJBJuntilla
