Butuan City – On 24 February 2022, local leaders in the Municipality of San Agustin convened to orient on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) at La Entrada Resort and Restaurant, Britania, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.
National Nutrition Council, Provincial Nutrition Focal Point, Ms. Julianne Janine Carrillo facilitated the orientation.
Ms. Carrillo discussed the overview of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, the structure of nutrition policy and coordination from the national level down to the barangay, the legal mandates/legal framework in managing nutrition programs for local government units (LGUs) and the barangay nutrition scholar (BNS) program.
In her discussion, she emphasized how to deliver nutrition services in the community, how to formulate the Barangay Nutrition Plan (BNAP) and the essential role of the Barangay Nutrition Committee.
Nutrition Program Management is a decision-making process of identifying potential nutrition problems and needs of a specific population group. It analyzes possible ways of preventing and controlling malnutrition. It also allocates resources based on needs and expectations and takes deliberate action to address nutritional problems, including those related to monitoring and evaluation.
The orientation aims to inflate the capacities of nutrition workers and stakeholders, particularly in leading nutrition programs to secure and effectively sustain nutrition programs which the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition is unified and blueprinted in practical nutrition programs and are effectively managed at the local and barangay level. #PNFP Julianne Janine Carrillo
