Butuan City – At least 20 barangay nutrition scholars attended the Crash Course on the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) conducted on 07 March 2022, at City Hall Food Supply Office, Butuan City.
The initiative aims to assist LGUs and provide Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) a re-orientation in managing cases of children with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in accordance with the Department of Health Memo No. 2015-0055 or the National Guidelines on the Management of Acute Malnutrition for children under 5 years which provide standardized protocols, emphasis on linkages and referrals, supply networks, indicators for monitoring, and importance of PIMAM in emergency settings.
A demonstration was conducted on how to prepare the ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) and the proper way of using the Mid-upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape were emphasized in the orientation.
The City Nutrition Office of Butuan City, headed by City Nutrition Action Officer Rosemarie Grace M. Teopiz, together with the Barangay Nutrition Scholars expressed gratitude for the valuable time extended by NNC.
The PIMAM crash course in Butuan City was facilitated by Information Management Officer, Love Joy Juntilla, Nutrition Officers, Raphael P. Ochavo and Paula Sophia Tejada.
In recognition, NNC Officer-in-Charge Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Niño Archie Labordo commended Butuan City for garnering the lowest record of wasted children among the provinces and cities in Caraga region based on the 2020 and 2021 OPT+ report. #PSTejada
