Butuan City--In line with the 55th Araw ng Agusan Del Norte, through its Provincial Tourism Office and Provincial Agriculture Office, conveyed its Season 2 of Lutong Agusanon held at Caraga State University (CSU) Gym in Cabadbaran City, with the main goal of creating a unique Agusanon dish with the use of local commodities present in the province.

Prior to the final cooking show of Lutong Agusanon, a series of elimination rounds were conducted in every municipality. The entries must come from a bona fide resident of Agusan Del Norte but not a professional chef.

The main ingredients for the cooking show are the commonly produced agricultural products in the locality, fishes such as bangus, tilapia, pijangga, tamban for the main course while manga, banana, cassava, corn for the dessert category. Every entry must have a storyline which will describe the menu.
During the final cooking, participants in each category (main dish and dessert) were given one (1) hour for the preparation up to the plating. Dishes were judged according to the criteria set by the organizers and judges’ scores are final and irrevocable.

Judges were composed of a professional chef, representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) in the person of OIC-RNPC Labordo and PNFP Fernandez.

In 2 categories, Ms. Beehive Quano from the municipality of Santiago, was hailed as the winner for showcasing her winning pieces, Deep Fried Tilapia with Rice Pilaf, Pako Salad and Wander Soup for the main category and Tostones- mashed fried banana dip in chocolate sauce infused with Biasong leaves- for the dessert category. She describes her dishes as simple ones, creative, budget-friendly, nutritious, and healthy. Ms. Quano is also an advocate of sustainable farming, a firm believer that it is best to cook foods coming from your backyard gardens to ensure quality and nutritive value of ingredients. She competed along with 8 other contenders.

Ms. Quano received trophies, cash prizes and the title of Lutong Agusanon Season 2 Grand Champion. #PNFPMAFernandez
