Butuan City- The campaign for this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration calls for strengthened nutrition actions said by Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo, the Officer-in Charge of the National Nutrition Council Caraga during the Regional Launching on 4 July at SM Event Center, Butuan City.
The theme connotes actions towards nutrition improvement as the country shifts towards adapting with COVID 19 virus, Dr. Labordo added.
This year’s nutrition month theme “new normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon”, was carried out to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from pandemic.
The quarantine, lockdowns and the mobility restrictions have a huge impact on the lives of many, particularly on the visible upshot of hunger and malnutrition.
Social Weather Station (SWS) revealed that an increase of families who suffered from hunger has been noted since the start of COVID 19 pandemic.
This is due to the unavailability of food and the accessibility of food, which is a factor that influences food utilization.
However, Dr. Labordo shared that while there are challenges brought by the pandemic, there are also positive changes that have been adopted.
Innovation in the mode of health and nutrition services, digital technology utilization, online capacity enhancements and various modes of communications have been on the ground.
With the call of solidarity, Dr. Labordo encourages everyone to take part in terms of awareness on the importance of nutrition in building immunity, in building resilience.
Scaling up nutrition interventions can be put to everyone’s function so that we can mitigate the effect of climate change and the effect of challenging times, he added.
Presidential Decree 491 states that Nutrition Month is an important campaign to create greater awareness among Filipinos about the importance of good nutrition.#NASLabordo
