BNS NM talk 2022Butuan City- After two years of being on mobility restrictions, barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) across Caraga region convened for its Regional Conference on 14 July at Watergate Hotel, Butuan City.

“Nakaka-refresh, nakakabuhay sa aming mga BNSs”, the conference is refreshing and uplifting to us BNSs, said BNS Arcelie Lamay of Surigao City.

The one-day Conference provided technical inputs on the Nutrition Month theme, “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon”.

Nutrition Officer II Leah Vina Vargas shared the topic on Good nutrition sa New Normal na Sitwasyon. She explained that pandemic has made a huge impact to nutrition and that we need to adopt to strategies on how to become healthy and well-nourished.

Meanwhile, Mr. Raphael P. Ochavo, discussed the connection of resilience to nutrition. As a disaster vulnerable country, nutrition should be put as priority in the local government unit program implementation. Improving resilience in the country can help address factors of malnutrition, he added.

Additionally, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo challenged the BNSs to become one of the best service providers, sharing the topic on “How to become an Outstanding BNS”.

The discussion emphasized the BNS roles and functions and provided tips on how to capture a good documentation report.

Further, features of the Republic Act 11148 also known as the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act was given by Ms. Mariella P. Rayco.

In her message, BNS Federation President, Mary B. Lomoljo mentioned that as BNS one should update learning and relearn to guarantee nutrition services at the barangay level.

The Regional Conference of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars was attended by the officers of the Provincial and City Federation officers.#NASLabordo
