Butuan City – The National Nutrition Council Caraga with the leadership of OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator (RNPC) Dr. Niṅo Archie S. Labordo facilitated the conduct of Nutrition Integration in the 2023 Annual Investment Program (AIP) and Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) updating of LGU Claver last July 6-8, 2022 at G-Anns Dinner, Claver, Surigao Del Norte. 

The 3-day planning workshop with the aim of integrating nutrition program, projects, and activities in the municipality and barangay level. 

The workshop was attended by the Municipal Nutrition Committee headed by their chairperson, Mayor Georgia Gokiangkee. 

Mayor Gokiangkee together with their MNC members will strengthen their nutrition and food security and related programs to ensure the health and nutrition of Clavernon specially of their children. 

The 14 barangays of LGU Claver also actively participated, represented by the councilors on health and nutrition, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), midwives, and public health nurses.

Prior to the start of planning-workshop, Dr. Labordo urged the participants to put high priority in nutrition and make significant investments in nutrition through his discussion on “Why Invest in Nutrition?” He emphasized that investing in nutrition means investing in our population!

Aimed at formulating Municipal and Barangay Nutrition Action Plans, succeeding sessions focused on workshops for updating of barangay nutrition situation, outcome targeting, budget preparation, and 3-year barangay workplans integrating nutrition specific, nutrition sensitive, and enabling programs, interventions and strategies anchored to the problems present at the barangay level. 

The participating nutrition committee members appreciated the said workshop and the barangays committed to finalize the crafted BNAP and for approval of the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) and the inclusion of the nutrition and related programs to other sectoral plans with appropriate budget. These ensures that technical inputs to scale up local nutrition actions and budgets are aligned in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). #MAFERNANDEZ #LVPVARGAS
