Butuan City- All nine (9) barangays in the Municipality of Bacuag, Surigao del Norte attended the Barangay Nutrition Action Planning (BNAP) Workshop conducted on 19-21 July at Barangay Población Multipurpose Hall in this town.

Led by the visionary Mayor of Bacuag, Hon. Felicisimo C. Cebedo, the three-day planning workshop was well attended by Sangguniang Bayan members, Barangay Chairpersons and members of the Local Nutrition Committee.

During the first day, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo of NNC Caraga discussed the topic on Why Invest in Nutrition, which provided appreciation for the alarming nutrition situation in the country and in the Province of Surigao del Norte.

Likewise, the topic shared the importance of the first 1,000 days package and monitoring the six critical interventions to maximize the growth potential of the child.

Ms. Kareen O.Ugay, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer and the Municipal Administrator shared that nutrition is among the priorities of the current administrator.

This is the reason why all nine barangays were gathered so that budget related to nutrition will be included in their plans and budgets.

This was supported by Ms. Wilivie C. Diola, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) who provided legal mandates on why the inclusion of nutrition programs, projects and activities in the development plans.

MLGOO Diola shared that in previous years, the creation of the Barangay Nutrition Committee was left behind and that there is a need to make the Committee functional.

Vice Mayor Shiela Mae Cebedo assured that the Administration will support any activities related to children’s development.

Draft BNAP was the main output of the planning-workshop which would be lined up for finalization, deliberation and approval by the local Council. #NASLabordo
