Surigao City- Twelve (12) barangays in the Municipality of Sison showcased locally grown products on 29 July 2022 during the culmination activity of the Nutrition Month Celebration at Doña Helen Gymnasium, San Pedro, Sison, Surigao del Norte.
Led by the Barangay Nutrition Committee, each participating booth grouped the food products and commodities as to go, grow and glow foods.
Municipal Health Officer and Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Angel Antonette Lumogdang-Devocion shared that the showcased products should be available and accessible locally. It should be in variety and affordable to consumers, she added.
In his message, National Nutrition Council Caraga Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Niño Archie S. Labordo, emphasized the importance of being resilient.
He mentioned the link between nutrition and resiliency. And that being resilient is being food secured.
When there is no access to cities and markets during disasters, households should plant and plant for home food consumption, Dr. Labordo added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Karissa Fetalvero-Paronia emphasized the budget for nutrition that the Barangay Nutrition Committee should allocate.
The good Mayor pointed out the importance of investing human resources in the Municipality of Sison.
Who will lead Sison if we do not invest in nutrition? Let us invest in human resources for the future of our municipality, Mayor Paronia added.
Further, Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Health, Hon, Mylah Jane L. Plaza shared the importance of life and family through good nutrition and healthy eating habits.
The culmination which was participated different stakeholders and partners, also showcased the Nutri-food contests, malusog at talentadong pamilya, and best recipe and menu.#NASLabordo
