CNPC Tandag MELLPI2022Butuan City – 29-year-old City Nutrition Program Coordinator, Mary Joy A. Galolo is one of the contenders in this year’s Search for the Regional Outstanding CNPC in Caraga region.

Part of the screening process, the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) interviewed, Mary Joy A. Galolo, at Capitol in Tandag City, Surigao Del Sur, on August 25, 2022. And documents were reviewed, particularly the accomplishments and documentation in 2021.

Ms. Galolo, a registered Nutritionist Dietician, once worked at the Department of Health (DOH) where she developed knowledge and skills about health and nutrition prior to becoming a public health nutritionist.

The Department of Health molded her to be efficient in every task being asked, to include master of the ceremony and speaker in every seminar, orientation, and other events. After working at the DOH, she officially transferred to Tandag City as a City Nutrition Program Coordinator in January 2019 as job order and was then appointed as Nutrition Officer III on August 17, 2020.

Challenging journey but excellent experience being the City Nutrition Program Coordinator serving the public. “Public health has not been in the lists of choices for interest of work”, Ms. Galolo added. However, visiting different areas that need assistance and providing intervention in the community nutrition problem has gradually been an “eye-opener”.

The candidate believed that the job was destined for her. Growing up while loving the job of being a public servant, the task warms her heart, visiting and helping different barangays achieve a better living. Helping and serving others has been a priority for her, rather than doing administrative works.

In addition, working in the community enables her to develop policies to elevate the nutrition situation of the population. Her plans for newly designated Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) to coordinate their job and duties as BNS enforcing training. Workshop and forums for Barangay Nutrition Scholar to prosper their knowledge and develop proper skills to be able to respond and interact properly with the responsibilities and duties of a Nutrition Scholar. As well as to provide technical assistance to the Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC), and guiding them in the development of realistic nutrition interventions for their Barangay Nutrition Action Program (BNAP).

Along with her greatest accomplishments that contributed to Tandag City as a CNPC are the: Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and Breastfeeding Program.

To be an effective City Nutrition Officer III equates with great responsibility and pressure. But Ms. Galolo is determined and ready to face challenges that can make her become an efficient public health nutritionist. #LynnLorelieD.Opaon/NASLabordo
