Senior Citizen Aug28Butuan City – Thirty (30) senior citizens in Barangay Imadejas received nutrition and diet counselling on 28 August 2022 at the Barangay Imadejas covered court, Butuan City.

Basic anthropometric measurements such as height, weight and body mass index (BMI) were taken to inform each senior of their nutritional status. Further, the desirable body weight (DBW) and total energy requirements (TER) were also calculated for their guidance.

To give proper guidance, individual discussion was made using the Pinggang Pinoy for the elderly designed by the Department of Science and Technology- Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).

Senior citizens that are aged 60 years old and above are advised to eat less oily or fatty foods, salty and sugary rich products to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and obesity.

However, elderly people can still eat a variety of foods ranging from go, grow and glow food in moderation and in balance.

Mr. Ramon Serrano, the President of the Association, was very thankful for the time shared by the National Nutrition Council Caraga particularly imparting the nutrition tips and guidance for healthy diet for elderlies.

NNC Caraga who committed time were Love Joy Juntilla and Marie Angelie Fernandez both nutritionist dietitians, together with the senior nutrition and dietetics students from Mindanao Central University. #JAEballe&RRBacalso/NASLabordo
