Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – The Provincial Health Office-Nutrition Services of Agusan del Sur conducted a three-day capacity building for all barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) in the Municipality of La Paz on October 19-21, 2022 conducted at Demofarm Training Center, La Paz, Agusan del Sur.

Sangguniang Bayan Member on Health, Hon. Josephine Carmona of La Paz, Agusan del Sur delivered welcomed the twenty-two (22) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and the team of facilitators and resource speakers.

The training equipped the participants with knowledge and skills to be a steadfast BNS of their respective barangays. Included in the training were the significance of the core values in performing their roles and responsibilities as a BNS, basic concepts in food and nutrition, the barangay nutrition program in the local development system, and effective community nutrition assessment.

The training team is composed of three (3) resource speakers and facilitators with one (1) support staff. The speakers and facilitators are from the National Nutrition Council Caraga, DMOII Mariella P. Rayco, Provincial Nutrition Office of Agusan del Sur, PNAO Laniebelle T. Angchangco and Municipal Nutrition Office of La Paz, MNAO Lina Jean Guiang-Precioso.

The Municipality of La Paz, where indigenous people and tribes inhabit, needs the support to transfer advocacies in harmony with their different cultural beliefs, which affects various nutrition programs such as Operation Timbang Plus. Considering the situation, the training put emphasis on the importance of communication and advocacy skills of a BNS. #MPRayco
