ADN BNS TOT 2022Butuan City--A three-day training of trainers of the Barangay Nutrition Scholar for the Province of Agusan del Norte facilitated by the National Nutrition Council Caraga  on October 26 to 28, 2022 at E & G Hotel, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

Twenty-nine (29) participants joined the Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Training of Trainers from the different local government units of Agusan del Norte Province, namely: Carmen, Buenavista, Nasipit, Las Nieves, Kitcharao, Remedios T. Romualdez (RTR), Santiago, Magallanes, Jabonga, Tubay, and the City of Cabadbaran.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Silver Joy B. Tejano addressed her welcome message which she expressed that the training would enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants and will plan to conduct a roll-out training in their respective municipalities.

In the 2018-2019, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) Expanded National Nutrition Survey, the Province of Agusan del Norte posted a high prevalence of stunting at 30.3%.

In his discussion, Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo pointed out the importance of nutrition program management. The local nutrition functionality checklist shall guide the local government unit in achieving the nutrition Committee functionality.


Other topics were also discussed by NNC Caraga staff Nutrition Officer II, Leah Vina P. Vargas, DMO II Cristal Gale P. Gumban, DMO II of Surigao del Sur, Ms. Samantha Anne T. Navarro, DMO II and IMO of Dinagat Islands, Ms. Jann Abigail O. Portillas, and Ms. Angelica O. Pajulas. The program was successfully concluded with the participants sharing gained knowledge and skills they obtained during the three-day training.

The training-workshop was participated in by Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs), District/City/ Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators (DCMCNPCs), municipal nutrition office staff, and selected staff from the different Provincial offices: Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO), the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD). #JAOPortillas
