BUTUAN CITY- The New Zealand Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Peter Kell along with UNICEF Philippines Country Representative Oyunsaikhan Dendevnorov conducted a humanitarian visit to typhoon-stricken areas of the Province of Surigao del Norte on 28 November to 01 December 2022.
The team was joined by the National Nutrition Council Caraga staff was purposely conducted to acquaint with key stakeholders and monitor initiatives enacted by UNICEF and implementing partners
Itinerary for Day 1 and 2 includes a courtesy meeting with the City Government of Surigao and Province of Surigao del Norte to which response activities shared to local chief executives and health and nutrition focal personnel.
In Siargao Islands, the team visited General Luna, Burgos and Sta Monica, where the team witnessed water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), nutrition program implementation and sustainable livelihood programs.
In the temporary Rural Health Unit of General Luna, the team met the pregnant and lactating women and conducted a conversation about their past and current situation.
The team likewise visited a family with twin malnourished children who are now rehabilitated through the implementation of the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM).
The visit provided lessons learned and experiences which will help future humanitarian activities, particularly maternal and child health and nutrition programs. #NASLabordo
