BUTUAN CITY- To complete the UNICEF- Philippines over-all activities for Southern Leyte and Caraga region post typhoon Odette, a one-day After-Action-Review (AAR) workshop was conducted on 9 December 2022 at the Discovery Suites Hotel, Ortigas Pasig City.
National Nutrition Council Executive Director Asec. Azucena M. Dayanghirang in her message delivered by Ms. Ellen Ruth F. Abella highlighted the importance of past experiences.
For more effective and efficient management of nutrition in emergencies, we need to learn from our previous nutrition in emergency experiences, she stated.
The after-action review workshop aimed at presenting the key achievements against the planned results; documenting programmatic, operational challenges, constraints, and good practices of our overall presence; and discussing measures and recommendations to sustain and expand the results from UNICEF Support.
The groups from Southern Leyte and Caraga region actively participated in the different sessions and built strength for more collaborative activities in the Nutrition in Emergency Cluster.
Asec Dayanghirang pointed out that during emergencies nutritionally at risk- children less than 5 years old, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, elderly, differently-abled persons, indigenous peoples, those with debilitating conditions need critical attention as they are even greater danger of undernutrition, weakened immunity and even death.
ASec Dayanghirang expressed gratitude to UNICEF and partners for putting importance to Nutrition Cluster activities during and even before disasters.
Representing the Caraga region are DOH CHD Caraga, Provincial Health Office of Surigao del Nutrition, Provincial Nutrition Office of Dinagat Islands, and National Nutrition Council Caraga. #NASLabordo
