BUTUAN CITY—Department of Health Caraga Regional Director and Chairperson Regional Nutrition Committee, Dr. Cesar C. Cassion lauded the local government units, nutrition champions and awardees during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) conducted on 29 November 2022 at the LMX Convention Center, Butuan City.

In his message, Dr. Cassion highlighted the importance of nutrition. It is fundamental to an empowered, productive, and healthy functioning society.

The experience of COVID 19 pandemic has underscored the paramount importance of proper nutrition in fostering immunity, protection against illness and infection, and supporting recovery, Dr. Cassion added.

Aside from COVID 19, Caraga region have been challenged by the recent typhoon Odette that struck the Provinces of Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.

Dr. Cassion emphasized that even with the current situation, health and nutrition challenges demand equally bold actions, ideas, commitment, and leadership to alleviate the burden of hunger and malnutrition.

The awards received by the LGUs and focal persons are a manifestation of their dedicated work, consistency and working extraordinarily, Dr. Cassion mentioned.

This year, the RNAC recognized the LGUs for their commendable performance, innovation, mobilization and for passing the Green Banner Seal of Compliance.

Local Nutrition Focal Person, partners and stakeholders are also recognized for responding the call of service and making a difference in their respective areas of assignments. 

The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Chaired by RD Cassion is establishing a better nutrition network which will strengthen better nutrition program implementation in the region.#NASLabordo
