BUTUAN CITY - Municipality of Bacuag organized a training on Nutrition in Emergencies for the Barangays in the Municipality on December 20-22, 2022 at Bacuag Hanging Bridge Function Hall in the said town.
The Rural Health Unit, Nutrition Office, and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office are also involved in the training.
There are sixty-five (65) participants who attended the training composed of barangay nutrition scholars, barangay health workers, child development workers, and barangay population officers.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Niño Archie S. Labordo of the National Nutrition Council Caraga, three (3) Information Management Officers (IMOs), Ms. Love Joy Juntilla, Angelica Pajulas, and Gan Anthony Saromines, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Management Officer of Bacuag, Ms. Arfel P. Diago served as resource persons.
The training was facilitated by the nutrition staff, led by the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Bacuag Ms. Kareen O. Ugay.
Topics covered during the training were Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Cluster Approach; Introduction to Nutrition in Emergencies; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Nutrition; Information Management in Support to Nutrition in Emergencies in the Philippines, Information Management Concepts and Tools; Roles of Information Management Officer (IMO) in the Humanitarian Content and Data Privacy Act.
The teaching methods used included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and exercises which enabled the participants to know the rationale of managing and implementing nutrition in emergencies. Also, the participants were able to make their Nutrition in Emergency Plan as part of their output.
The three-day training aims to build capacity to the Local Government Unit to manage, prepare, and respond to the nutrition needs during emergencies and disasters. #GASaromines
