BUTUAN CITY - The National Nutrition Council Caraga Region participated in the simultaneous national launching of End Stunting Now Campaign of Brigada News Network on its 11th week of Mother and Child Care Advocacy at Brgy. Libertad, Butuan City on 21 January 2023. Brigada News FM Butuan 96.7 Station Manager, Mr. Carlo G. Dugaduga and his staff spearheaded the launching of the campaign and was warmly welcomed by Punong Barangay Menchie Diaz-Rosario and the barangay council.
DMOII Raphael P. Ochavo represented the NNC Caraga on behalf of NPC Dr. Niño Archie S. Labordo. With the pregnant and lactating mothers and barangay officials as audience, DMOII Ochavo discussed the First 1000 Days Program, the key program on ending malnutrition in the Philippines. He also briefly introduced the National Nutrition Council, the highest policy-making and coordinating body on nutrition in the Philippines. He added to share the newly released DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2023-001 on the implementation of Halina't Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay Project.
Apart from the information campaign on stunting, a feeding program was also conducted targeting the identified under five year-old children in the barangay. They were also given vitamin supplements and advocacy materials on proper nutrition.
The End Stunting Now Campaign is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program of Brigada News Network and is now part of the Mother and Child Care Advocacy of Brigada News Butuan. The Mother and Child Care Advocacy of Brigada News Butuan commenced last October 2022. The media outlet aims to visit all of th 86 barangays of Butuan City and will expand in the coming months.
The NNC Caraga is grateful for the initiative of Brigada News Network on ending malnutrition, especially stunting, in our country.
