The National Nutrition Council Region 9 in partnership with the Department of Health Region 9 successfully conducted an Information Caravan on Nutrition in Emergencies (NIE) in the provinces of Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay on July 8-10, 2014 respectively. A total of 150 Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) and members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) were in attendance. The activity was conducted relative to the 40th nationwide celebration of Nutrition Month with the theme “Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan!” (Prepare for emergencies to prevent hunger and malnutrition). The activity aims to create awareness among the general populace on the importance of preparedness during emergencies, how to respond and think of what recovery measures can be done to prevent death and worsening of malnutrition of the affected population.
The information caravan on NIE served as a guide especially to the Nutrition Action Officers and members of the Local Nutrition Committees to organize nutrition clusters to their respective areas.
We are now calling on our partners, let’s all join hands and be organized. Because being organized in times of emergencies and disasters can prevent hunger and malnutrition and most especially save lives!
