nnc 9 NSOANational Nutrition Promotion Program for Behavior Change

The Nutrition School On the Air (NSOA) a nutrition promotion module developed by the  National Nutrition Council to create public awareness and adopt good nutrition practices will simultaneously be on air in three radio stations in Zamboanga Peninsula.

The Nutrition School On Air is a nutrition specific program that promotes behavior change through radio, ensuring that correct and proper information on nutrition is disseminated to all. The module covers the talking points of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos or the more popular 10 Kumainments.

The radio is the widest and most accessed medium by the  general public especially in rural areas. Hence, the NNC Regional Office 9 contracted with three radio stations in Zamboanga City, Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay and Dipolog City. The program will run for three months starting July until September 2017 with twelve sessions and be aired once a week.

Anchored by the Nutrition Action Officers and District / City Nutrition Program Coordinators the NSOA is being aired in Zamboanga City DXXX 1008 AM band every Friday 9:00 to 10:00 o’clock in the morning;  in Ipil Zamboanga Sibugay by Radyo Bisdak DXMG 88.7 FM on  Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon and in Dipolog City is aired at Energy FM DXLG 103.7 at 4:00 to  5:00 o’clock in the afternoon.  Airing on its second month the NSOA program has registered 208 enrollees who will complete and graduate by October 2017. As an incentive to the participants, the first two texters to give the correct answer to the questions given in-between discussions get a fifty pesos cellphone load every session. At the end of the 20 session of the NSOA the registered enrollees will be invited to join a simple graduation ceremony where they will be presented with certificates of completion.

The airing of the NSOA foresees the increase in households reached by the promotion of good nutrition as guide in providing appropriate nutrition care for the infants and young children, the adolescent girls and pregnant women as well as all the other age groups in the society for better nutrition and health.   Thus contribute to better nutrition of mothers and young children the prevent the onset of  undernutrition in early childhood, reducing the prevalence of stunting among children in Zamboanga Peninisula.
