DILG Regional Director keynotes the 2018 Region 9 Nutrition Awarding Ceremony

RNAC NNC 9The National Nutrition Council (NNC) together with the Regional Nutrition Anti-Hunger Committee (RNAHC) conducted the 2018 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) on October 18, 2018 at Skyview Grand Astoria Hotel , Zamboanga City. The activity gives recognition to outstanding Local Government Units as well as Nutrition Action Officers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars in the implementation of nutrition program.

The keynote speaker for this year’s Regional Awarding Ceremony is the DILG IX Regional Director, Mr. Paisal O. Abutazil who in his message commended the Local Chief Executives on the noteworthy acomplishments of the local government units in their respective nutrition programs. He emphasized that their leadership in carrying out a good nutrition program is a valuable factor in the success of program implementation and to the improvement of the nutrition situation in their respective communities.

Likewise, the keynote speaker reiterated that the Local Government Units play a vital and instrumental role in relation to nutrition in all aspects of governance. He said that the Local Chief Executive as Chair of the Local Nutrition Committee should also look into the nutritional status of the children as well as the nutritional needs of the entire community. Nutrition should be a priority .

The Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) as integrated in the Local Development Plans outlines the strategies to effectively address the problem of malnutrition because if nutritional problems or issues are not properly addressed can cause low productivity among children .

In closing, RD Abutazil again congratulated the nutrition champions in the region: The City of Dipolog and the municipality of Alicia in Zambaoanga Sibugay as outstanding city and municipality respectively as well as the runners-up the city of Zamboanga and municipality of Salug.

Gracing the occasion were the Local Chief Executives and Local Government Officials, Nutrition Action Officers and members of the Local Nutrition Comittees, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, the members of the Regional Nutrition and Anti-Hunger Committee with the DOH-IX Assistant Regional Director Joshua Brilliantes represented the Chair RD Emilia Monicimpo, Regional Technical Working Group and Nutrition Evaluation Team members as well as the representatives of the Academe, Professional Organizations, the Non-Government Organizations and the Media.
