The world has made strides in reducing the prevalence of malnutrition, yet approximately one billion people are still malnourished, and 25,000 people die every day from hunger and related causes. There are key individuals that identify and apply new approaches that break the mold. Truly, these people who lead to take a step and undertook effective and efficient procedures and services are deserving to receive rewards and honors due them.
The awarding ceremony was organized and spearheaded by members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET). The RNET holds this annually to acknowledge individuals, groups and companies that demonstrate system-changing solutions that expand and improve nutrition in undernourished communities and wider population segments.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) believes that "good nutrition for the entire world’s population is within our reach. Everyone can be well nourished. We need your help to identify the innovative solutions that can make this a reality for communities currently lacking access to adequate nutrition or unaware of its benefits." This was the message given by Keynote SpeakerCarolina Bautista - Battallones, Deputy Executive Director of the National Nutrition Council.
The theme of the event: was "One Nutrition, One Nation" sindicating growth beyond the stage of idea, concept, or research. Also should be at the current stage the 'job-well done' or 'programs' indicate success. The reviewing body (RNET), evaluate programs that are beyond the conceptual stage, and have demonstrated a proof of impact, even at small scale. Dr. Aristides C. Tan, MD, MPH, CESO III, Regional Director IV and RNC Chairperson CHD-DOH, Zamboanga Peninsula said, that "this kind of event has a high impact to inspire and motivate people who push for nutrition."
The awardees at different levels have demonstrated impact on the target population - either in an specific undernourished community or the undernourished at large. Some innovations have proven success at a small level, while others have grown to engage hundreds of people. Regardless of the level of demonstrated program, it is important that the innovation has a potential for application nationally. Entrants were judged by the innovation's potential for scale and replication, in addition and ability to formulate a clear “goals” to reaching larger goals.
