Forty-seven (47) students composed of Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Staff and Officers, Municipal Health Officers, Municipal Social and Welfare Development Officers, Nutrition Staff and Nutritionist Dietitian Deployment Project of Department of Health Region IX are officially enrolled in the e-Learning Course on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management (NiEM-IM) being conducted by the National Nutrition Council Regional Office IX. The participants are from the Municipalities of Aurora, Molave, Vincenzo Sagun and Mahayag of the province of Zamboanga del Sur; and Municipalities of Olutanga, Diplahan, Titay, Buug, Imelda, and Siay of the province of Zamboanga Sibugay.
The course will be held for twelve (12) days, the first day being on November 18, 2020 and shall end on December 11, 2020. NNC 9 opted for the blended learning type of course, where the materials and assignments will be posted on Google Classroom and there will be five (5) sessions for an open forum via Google Meet. During the first day on November 18, Nutrition Program Coordinator Nimfa D. Ekong welcomed the participants. In her welcome remarks, she emphasized that this e-Learning Course on NiEM-IM is helpful to these disaster-prone areas especially when there are unforeseen events that may occur anytime.
The students were able to view materials, answer and submit assignments about Disaster Risk Reduction and Cluster Approach and Introduction to Nutrition in Emergencies. During the first five (5) days, video lectures by different resource speakers were posted to the class’ Google Classroom for easier access. These lectures include the Basic concepts of nutrition and malnutrition, importance of Nutrition in Emergencies, Nutrition in Emergencies interventions, Introduction and overview of Information Management, and much more.
The last six (6) remaining sessions will focus on the tools, the development of NIE plan, and the re-entry plan per LGU.
