RO9 BNSPagadianFifty-six (56) Barangay Nutrition Scholars of the Local Government Unit of Pagadian City were fortunate to be trained by the Department of Information and Communications Technology on basic computer applications. This program, which was initiated by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pagadian City headed by City Nutrition Committee Chair Samuel Co and supported by CNAO Joseph Isaac Quipot, will run from 01 to 08 February and will be conducted to all BNSs in 6 batches.

The purpose of the training is for the BNSs to become computer literate by teaching them how to use the computer and for them to perform their duties using basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint which are significant in report making, generation and presentation, data analysis and record-keeping. Their knowledge on basic computer applications is of great benefit especially on improving their knowledge and skills on data entry and report generation using the electronic OPT tool after the Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus, which is an annual weighing and height measurement of all preschoolers 0-59 months old or below five years old in a community to identify and locate malnourished children.

We are now living in the new era where computers and internet are very essential in our day to day lives. Through this training, the BNSs will be equipped with the knowledge and skills on basic computer literacy. Not only that they will be able to use these on a personal level, but also help them in the accomplishment of their work as frontliners in combatting malnutrition.
