RO9 ExerciseThe National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region IX joins the observance of Philippine Heart Month, which is being observed every February. The heart is an important organ of our body. It pumps oxygenated blood to the other parts of our body. Basically, we cannot live without it. Thus, it is very important to take care of our heart.

In line with this and the perceived need for physical activities in the workplace, the staff of NNC Region IX on 05 February 2021 commenced a simple Zumba session at the office. Nutrition Program Coordinator Nimfa D. Ekong, Nutrition Officer III Elton N. Pelegrino, Nutrition Officer I Zhalimar J. Patulada, Administrative Aides VI Cielo Katrina M. Mabalot and Annie Rose G. Magno, Administrative Aide III Felimon J. Modillas Jr., and Utility Worker Sheena Mae A. Caladiao participated in the Zumba session following the steps searched on YouTube. A projector was connected so that all can follow the routine properly while observing COVID-19 protocols especially physical distancing and wearing of masks. The NNC IX staff danced their way following the Zumba dance videos of “Dancing Queen”, “Material Girl” and “Kiss Me”.

It truly feels good to move our bodies and sway our sweat out to the sound of the music after a whole day of sitting down in front of our laptops. NNC IX aims to do this simple exercise at least thrice a week aside from being encouraged to do self-initiated regular physical activities after a prolong stationary activity to promote good blood circulation, stretch tensed muscles, release physical and mental stress and burn extra calories. Let’s follow Kumainment#10_MagingAktibo so that our hearts will be healthier and our brains to work better.
