One of the missions of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) is to orchestrate efforts of government, private sector, international organizations, and stakeholders at all levels, in addressing hunger and malnutrition of Filipinos through promotion of good nutrition and nutrition surveillance. Especially during emergencies and disasters, either natural or man-made, NNC ensures that negative impacts to food and nutrition insecurity are minimized, if not prevented.
Thus, organization of a Local Nutrition Cluster is critical as it ensures that nutritional status of affected populations will not worsen and facilitates strategic collaboration and comprehensiveness of emergency management, resource mobilization and integration of cross-cutting nutrition concerns with other clusters. One of the vital actions of this cluster is to generate and provide data before, during, and after emergencies.
On November 18, 20, 24, 25, 27, December 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 11, NNC Region IX conducted an online training on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management (NiEM-IM) where it aims to build the capacities of local nutrition cluster members on nutrition information management. The Municipality of Olutanga was able to send 5 participants (students) to the online training which was held via Google Classroom and Google Meet.
With their strong conviction to learn and comply with the deliverables, MNAO Elena Subrado, MHO Dr. Enrico Ray Galvan, MNPC Christy Jane Sumiyaya, MSWDO Diesel Genteroliso, and IT-LDRRM Eriel Jeb Manda were able to complete the online training. All of them were able to answer the pre-test and post-test, submit the assignments, and submit the needed final outputs such as the DRRM-H Plans, Re-entry plans, and case study with complete IM tools.
To compensate their efforts in completing the training online despite the problems of slow and poor internet connection in their area, their very active and supportive Municipal Mayor Hon. Arthur P. Ruste Sr. handed over their Certificate of Completion on the E-Learning Course on NiEM-IM coming from NNC9.
With this, NNC9 lauds LGU-Olutanga for completing the e-Learning Course on NiEM-IM. May this new learned information capacitate the LGU further in addressing and managing emergency and disasters thereby protecting the welfare of their constituents most especially in the aspects of health and nutrition of the most vulnerable groups such as pregnant and lactating women, infants and young children as well as the elderlies.
