CARAVAN 7The National Nutrition Council IX (NNC9) conducted the Coaching, Assisting, and Reaching Advocates Virtually to Advance in Nutrition (CARAVAN) Session 7 to the local nutrition workers in the region on May 04, 2022 via Google Meet. This activity helps to reach out the nutrition program managers and implementers as well as to keep track of the different nutrition programs in their respective localities. Likewise, it aims to gather the participants to gain new insights related to their programs through virtual convergence. The activity is participated by more than one hundred twenty (120) attendees composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Local Nutrition Program Coordinators, Barangay Nutrition Scholar, and NNC-IX technical staff headed by the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nimfa D. Ekong.

This session highlighted the discussion of the New Guidelines of the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) including the Key Features of MELLPI Pro for Local Government Units (LGUs) and for Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFPs), and the Pertinent Documents to prepare for the MELLPI Pro Desk Review. The MELLPI Pro was the main topic discussed during the CARAVAN. The Rationale, Objectives, and Key Features of MELLPI Pro for LGUs and LNFPs were presented and discussed by NO III Elton Pelegrino and NO II Joanna Marie Baltazar respectively. It is designed to monitor and evaluate the performance of LGUs and LNFPs in promoting nutrition security vis-à-vis nutrition outcomes. The Nutrition Evaluation Team from the regional and local levels must conduct the MELLPI Pro at least once a year within the 1st semester.

During the activity, the participants from the different LGUs were able to ask some of their queries regarding MELLPI Pro during the open forum. Sharing of ideas and best practices were also done during the said session. The Local Nutrition Officers as well as Barangay Nutrition Scholars were grateful with the initiative that despite of the constraints during this pandemic, NNC9 still continues to provide technical assistance in the region virtually. NNC9 is also committed to continuously keep everyone updated with all the nutrition programs of the National Nutrition Council. Kudos everyone!
