Milkfish or Bangus is a popular fish in India, Southeast Asia, and Philippines, where it is known as the country’s "National Fish." Bangus (milkfish) is a delightful fish and when it is cooked, the white, flaky flesh of it is delicate. Its meat after being steamed, pan-fried, or seared is similar to milk. As a result, they became known as milkfish.

Milkfish is beneficial because it contains animal protein, B vitamins, and selenium, and it also contains a lot of fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. The fish is high in omega 3 fatty acids and protein, both of which are important for physiological function. Eating Bangus promotes children's brain and memory development, as well as preventing heart disease, controlling cholesterol levels and nourishing the eyes. Aside from that, Omega 3 is beneficial to pregnant women since it increases the quantity and quality of breast milk. Bangus can help the body satisfy its protein requirement and its rich nutrient content can help avoid coronary heart disease and improve endurance. Eating Milkfish can also aid to prevent vitamin shortages and promote overall body growth. Thus, it is good to include milkfish in your normal diet to get all of the nutrients your body needs in order to function properly.

The Food and Nutrition Board Institute of Medicine reported that individuals eat 116 percent of the vitamin B 12, 44% of niacin, 24% of vitamin B6, and 15% of pantothenic acid in a single meal of milkfish. Water soluble vitamins including B-complex vitamins are essential for metabolism, central nervous system function, skin health, and the synthesis of DNA, hormones, and red blood cells. Riboflavin, folate, and vitamin A are all found in milkfish.

A 3 oz serving of milkfish contains 25% of the phosphorus and selenium that individuals should consume on daily basis. Phosphorus is required for red blood cell oxygenation, while selenium is required for thyroid and immune system function. Calcium, iron, potassium and zinc can be found also in Bangus.
