CARAVAN Session 8The National Nutrition Council IX (NNC9) conducted the CARAVAN Session 8 for the local nutrition workers in the region on June 03, 2022, via Google Meet. This activity helps to reach out to the nutrition program managers and implementers as well as to keep track of the different nutrition programs in their respective localities. Likewise, it aims to gather the participants to gain new insights related to their programs through virtual convergence. The activity is participated by more than sixty-seven (67) attendees composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Local Nutrition Program Coordinators, Barangay Nutrition Scholar, DOH-HRH Nutritionist-Dietitians, and NNC9 technical staff.

The activity highlights the discussion of the Brief Overview of the MELLPI Pro and its Key Features for the Local Government Units (LGUs), and the MELLPI Pro Tools for the LGUs (barangay, city/municipality, and province). These topics were presented and discussed by NOII Joanna Marie Baltazar and NOIII Elton Pelegrino.

MELLPI Pro shall be conducted at least once a year. An interagency nutrition evaluation team at the national, regional, and local levels shall conduct MELLPI Pro. These activities, together with activities that monitor the nutrition situation form part of the Philippine Nutrition Surveillance System. The PNSS serves as the overall monitoring and evaluation system for the nutrition sector.

During the activity, the participants from the different LGUs were able to ask some of their questions regarding MELLPI Pro. Some of them shared their best practice and ideas in conducting MELLPI Pro before. The Local Nutrition Officers as well as Barangay Nutrition Scholars are looking forward to more upcoming CARAVAN sessions that will be conducted by NNC9. Rest assured that NNC9 will continue to provide technical assistance in the region virtually, and hopefully we will be having a face-to-face CARAVAN session soon as permitted because we are committed to keeping everyone updated with all the nutrition programs of the National Nutrition Council.
