Breakfast is referred to be "the most essential meal of the day." Breakfast, as the name implies, is the meal that breaks the overnight fast, it replaces your glucose supply, increasing your energy and alertness while also giving other essential nutrients for optimal health. Eat during the first hour after waking 6:00 am – 10:00 am to get your body set for a terrific day. This is the best time to have your first meal, primarily to prepare yourself for a second meal a few hours later. Breakfast has been shown to have a variety of health benefits. It boosts your energy and concentration in the short term, and it can help you lose weight and lessen your risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease in the long run, but despite the health advantages of breakfast, many people forego it for various reasons.
Glucose is the body's main fuel source and the carbohydrates you ingest break down into glucose and are absorbed. The majority of energy is stored in the form of fat in the body. However, your body stores some glucose as glycogen, the majority of which is stored in your liver and the rest in your muscles. The liver breaks down glycogen and releases it into the bloodstream as glucose during periods of fasting (without eating), such as overnight, this helps to keep blood sugar levels steady. This is especially important for your brain, which functions almost entirely on glucose. Your glycogen levels are low in the morning after going without eating for up to 12 hours. When your glycogen stores are depleted, your body begins to break down fatty acids to provide the energy it requires, fatty acids are only partially oxidized without carbohydrate, which can lower your energy levels, thus, breakfast increases your energy and refills your glycogen levels, allowing you to keep your metabolism going throughout the day.
People who eat breakfast on a regular basis are less likely to be overweight or obese because it helps to control your appetite by preventing large fluctuations in blood glucose levels. Breakfast also fills you up before you get hungry, so you're less likely to grab whatever foods are nearby when hunger strikes (for example high energy, high fat foods with added sugars or salt). People who have breakfast have healthier diets, better eating habits, and are less likely to be hungry for snacks during the day than those who miss breakfast. Children who do not eat a nutritious breakfast are more likely to make bad dietary choices throughout the day and in the long run.
