By protecting your eyes, you will reduce the chances of blindness and vision loss while also staying on top of any developing eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.

A habit of rubbing your eyes can damage your eyes if you rub it too hard or too often. Some people rub their eyes due to the several health conditions such as eye infection, allergies and other health condition. One of the common eye infection that makes your eyes itch is conjunctivitis or pink eye. You usually get it from bacteria or a virus on your fingers that is transmitted when you touch your eye. The infection often causes your eye to turn pink or red. This infection doesn’t usually cause pain, but you may have an itching feeling that causes you to rub your eyes. This condition is highly contagious and it may spread easily by coming into contact with someone who is infected. Other causes that makes you rub your eyes is allergies. Some people who have allergies experience itchy eyes, causing them to rub their eyes.

Rubbing your eyes too hard or too often might damage the lens of your eye or the cornea. This could result in vision impairment or an infection that needs medical attention. Eye pain, light sensitivity, reduced vision, blurry vision, redness or inflammation, headache, nausea, and fatigue could be symptoms that you have eye damage. The best way to stop rubbing your eyes is to treat the underlying cause it. Good vision contributes to better quality of life. Consult your doctor if you experience prolonged symptoms of dry eyes, including red, irritated, tired, or painful eyes. Your optometrist will help you preserve and protect your vision. Keep your eyes healthy!
