The Zamboanga City Health Office through its personnel in Talon-Talon Health Center established a Community Pantry for pregnant women last July 21, 2022 in line with the Nutrition Month Celebration.
This is also in accordance to Republic Act 11148 or the “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act," a complementary early childhood care and development services in the first 1000 days of life. The activity was made possible through the support of Barangay Council headed by Chairperson Casmir Omar Candido together with the Barangay Nutrition Scholar Marilyn Nuñal. Different products were given to pregnant women which include fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat.
The activity focused on giving importance to the First 1000 days of children’s life from the moment they were conceived until their 2nd birthday. This has been considered as the golden window of opportunity to every child. This is to strengthen the community development through conducting activities that would engage the participation of pregnant women especially those who are nutritionally at risk.
As the need to ensure children to achieve their full potential in later years, supporting the pregnant women with proper nutrition initially guarantees that most likely all forms of malnutrition will be properly addressed.
