One of the kitchen buddies that we can rely on is our Refrigerator, it helps us make our food stays fresh, slows down spoilage and lasts longer. The refrigerator makes it possible for modern households to preserve food for longer than in the past. People can buy perishable food in quantity and consume it at their leisure thanks to freezers. Some facts on refrigerator: First home use refrigerator was invented in 1913. Frigidaire is a brand name; it first introduced the self-contained unit. Fridge is a slang term/colloquially known. Refrigerator be kept at or below 4 °C (40 °F) and that the freezer be regulated at −18 °C (0 °F).
These foods are a not to be placed in the refrigerator:
- Avocado – if extremely unripe it struggles to finish ripening in the refrigerator. Place it on the countertop instead.
- Melons – unless sliced, never put melons (cantaloupe, watermelon) or same fruits inside the refrigerator.
- Papaya - should be stored in a cabinet or on a counter. If necessary, store papaya with a banana in a paper bag to hasten the ripening process.
- Bananas – For two reasons, bananas need to be at room temperature: the fruit ripens more quickly, and the air and light prevents rotting. Also, nutrients are kept better.
- Tomatoes –the richness of its texture and its moisture is compromised by the refrigerator's frigid temperature.
- Apple –when kept at temperatures warmer than refrigerator, flavor and texture will be better preserved. Apples typically keep well at room temperature for one to two weeks.
- Fresh herbs – it will dry or wilt and flavor punch will be lost inside the refrigerator.
- Coffee - more prone to absorb flavors from its surroundings inside the fridge. Condensation from the refrigerator can change the flavor.
- Peanut butter - If kept in the fridge, it will most certainly become hard and dry so it needs to be stored at room temperature, unlike the jams or jellies that go so well in the fridge.
- Honey – inside the fridge it will rapidly lose its palatability.
- Oils – and cooking oil can immediately solidify in the fridge, much like honey does.
- Garlic - in the refrigerator, can develop mold and become rubbery. In fact, it might start to sprout.
- Onions - must be stored in the pantry unless they are chopped.
- Potatoes - when refrigerated, some of the starch converts to sugar, making it sweeter, and if potatoes are fried in oil after being chilled, they turn dark. Potatoes should be kept away from any fruit, and be separated from onions, as it will hasten spoilage.
- Sweet potato – fridge can make it hard in the center.
- Bread – it will make the bread stale and dry.
- Bell peppers - When kept in the refrigerator, bell peppers, one of the healthiest foods on the world, cease maturing.
- Mangoes – unless sliced, just like pineapple don’t place it inside the fridge.
- Oranges - Due to their strong acidity, citrus fruits are sensitive to cold temperatures, its skin may also start to look dull and spotted.
- Vinegar - the great thing about it is that it is self-preserving. In a study, it was confirmed that the shelf life of vinegar is virtually indefinite.
- Cucumber - When inside the fridge its skin might be damaged.
- Spices - The majority of ground spices can be kept in a dry, cool place for years. In addition to being of little advantage, storing spices at a lower temperature may also affect its flavor.
- Eggplant - Vegetables like eggplants are temperature-sensitive, so storing them in the refrigerator for too long may be detrimental. The texture and aroma of the eggplant might be harmed. The best place to keep eggplant is at room temperature, away from other produce.
The majority of fruit varieties taste best when kept at room temperature. Store your vegetables in a cool, well-ventilated area, such as your kitchen counter. In a supermarkets fruit and vegetable section, some fruits and veggies are not stored or placed in cold cases-so use that role of thumb when tackling kitchen food storage conundrums, too. Some fruits and veggies are better off in the counter and this is the best spot until you- cut them up, then store them in the fridge. Certain items taste better—and are actually healthier for you—when they're stored at room temperature.
