The Municipality of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte (LGU-Salug) is now ready for the 2nd Round of Supplemental Feeding for 6-59 Months Old Children and Pregnant Women.  The program entitled “Tutok Feeding Program for 6-59 PS Malnourished Children and Pregnant Women” will start on October 2022. The dietary supplementation program aims to address malnutrition by supplementing the dietary concern of nutritionally vulnerable groups such as children aged 6-59 months and pregnant women. The program will cover all identified undernourished 6-59 months old children and pregnant women in the municipality. The feeding will last for 120 days for 6-59 months old children and 90 days for pregnant women.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and other OPT Plus Team members have already conducted Operation Timbang Plus (OPT Plus) in the 1st quarter of this year. This OPT Plus is conducted to identify and quantify the 0-59 month-old malnourished children in the municipality. Based on the 2022 eOPT Report of Salug, there are 51 underweight, 36 stunted, and 46 wasted identified children. To immediately address this problem, the Municipal Nutrition Office headed by MNAO Julieme Cabigon has come up with an intervention to combat malnutrition in the municipality, the “Tutok Feeding Program for 6-59 PS Malnourished Children and Pregnant Women”. As of this moment, the LGU has already procured rice, eggs, meat, and other ingredients in preparation for the feeding.

The Municipal Mayor Hon. William Maribojoc expressed his commitment and support to eradicating malnutrition in the municipality. With the help of the Municipal Nutrition Office, other members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee, and other stakeholders, we can achieve a zero malnourished municipality by the year 2025.
