EggscellentEgg is an important ingredient in cooking different dishes and pastries. Its chemical composition usually leads in many baking reactions. Though there are many types of egg, the commonly used among Filipinos is the chicken egg. From simple sunny side up and scrambled egg which most of us have enjoyed in our breakfast meal.  Eggs are very nutritious as they contain protein, healthy fats, and many other nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, iron, choline, and folate.

Here are some excellent health benefits of Eggs:

1. Highly Nutritious

A whole egg is very nutritious because it supplies almost all the nutrients we need. It is a good source of Vitamin D and B12 which are very important to our health.  It also contains iodine and a complete source of protein as it contains all nine (9) essential amino acids.

2. Supports heart health

Eggs contain betaine and choline nutrients which are good for the heart.  Study reported that eating at least one (1) egg a day helps reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

3. Support brain functions

Eggs are a good source of choline, a very important nutrient needed for the formation of cell membrane and for normal brain function including memory.  Eggs are recommended for pregnant and lactating women due to its choline nutrient which is essential for baby’s brain development.

4. Supports eye health

Egg also supports eye health. The yolk contains bigger number of carotenes (lutein and zeaxanthin) which are antioxidants that prevent muscular degeneration and cataracts. It is also a good source of Vitamin A which is essential for good eyesight.

5. Supports weight management

Study revealed that having an egg for breakfast is ideal than consuming foods that only contain carbohydrates and may help to reduce your daily weight.

6. Helps build healthier bones

Egg is one of the natural sources of Vitamin D which can help in the proper absorption of calcium for healthy bones.

Overall, Egg is truly a nutritious food. Let’s always keep in mind to have this included in our daily diet. Eating nutritious foods daily is the ultimate key for a healthy body together with having an adequate physical activity.
