9-27 November 2012 -- NNC Region X conducted three batches of trainings on Promotion of Good Nutrition (PGN) for the nutrition program implementers of Misamis Oriental province. The series of 8-day trainings, conducted at Apple Tree Hotel and Resort in Opol, Misamis Oriental, was attended by City/ Municipal Health Officers, City/ Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Nurses and Midwives from the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Gingoog and El Salvador and from the municipalities of Alubijid, Balingasag, Balingoan, Binuangan, Claveria, Gitagum, Initao, Jasaan, Kinuguitan, Lagonglong, Laguindingan, Libertad, Lugait, Manticao, Meidna, Opol, Salay, Sugbongcugon, Talisayan and Villanueva.
The training focuses mainly on the promotion of good nutrition, more specifically on breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding for infants and training on the use of syllabi on the promotion of egg and vegetable consumption. Through this, hunger situation could be addressed in the community.
The program on the Promotion on good nutrition component of AHMP aims to improve the nutrition knowledge, attitudes and practices of families to increase demand for adequate, nutritious and safe food. More specifically, the program aims to increase the number of infants 0-6 months who are exclusively breastfed. It also aims to reduce the number of infants receiving food and drink other than breast milk. Moreover, it aims to increase the number of infants 6-9 months old who are given calorie and nutrient-dense complementary foods and increase number of households with improved diets in terms of quality and quantity and increase involvement in household food production activities.
