The interagency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team of Region X recently named Evangeline B. Galan of Barangay Panadtalan, Maramag, Bukidnon as the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS) of Northern Mindanao. BNS Galan topped seven other contenders from the cities of Gingoog, Valencia, Ozamiz, Malaybalay, Cagayan de Oro and Tangub and from the Province of Camiguin.
In another development, ROBNS Galan will compete for the National Outstanding BNS and is scheduled to be evaluated by the National Evaluation Team to be led by Assistant Secretary of Health Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, NNC Executive Director IV, come October 5-7 this year. The evaluation will determine whether the initiatives of BNS Galan and the Barangay Nutrition Committee contributed to sustained improvement of the barangay’s nutrition situation.
Valencia City and the Municipality of Kadingilan of Bukidnon, on the other hand, received the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) Outstanding Award conferred by the Philippine Association of Nutrition in a fitting ceremony held on July 7, 2016 at the Century Park Hotel. Both LGUs were awarded for sustaining the conduct of Pabasa for three and two consecutive years, respectively, resulting to improved nutritional status of malnourished children of project beneficiaries.
Should Valencia City and Kadingilan sustain the Award for four consecutive years, both will join Ozamiz City in the ranks of Pabasa sa Nutrisyon Hall of Fame Awardees. Ozamiz City was the first NorMin LGU conferred the PSN Hall of Fame Award in 2012. (fev)
