The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental is all set to undertake a province-wide training on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiEm) in October 26-28, 2016 and a dialogue with the NorMin Bantay Asin Task Force in November. Both activities are part of the scaling up nutrition improvement for the Misamisnons.
Attending the three-day NiEm training are the Nutrition Action Officers and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers of the 20 municipalities of MisOcc. Aside from management of nutrition services during disasters and emergencies, the participants will be initially formulating their Local Nutrition in Emergencies Plans. It is expected that the NiEm Plans will serve as inputs to the updating of the DRR Enhanced Development Plans of the Province and the Municipalities.
A dialogue between the Provincial Bantay Asin Task Force of MisOcc and the NorMin Bantay Asin Task Force will ensue to discuss how the Province can step up efforts in reducing if not eliminating of iodine deficiency disorder Province and in ensuring the utilization of adequately iodized salt in the Province. Misamis Occidental was identified as one of the provinces in the Philippines with mild IDD in the 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted by FNRI-DOST in 2013.
Misamis Occidental, through Governor Herminia M. Ramiro, is the first Province in Northern Mindanao to issue Executive Orders on the creation of the Provincial Nutrition Cluster and the Provincial Bantay Asin Task Force.
The National Nutrition Council X with the Ozamiz Nutrition Cluster and the NorMin Bantay Asin Task Force will assist MisOcc during the NiEm training and the Bantay Asin dialogue, respectively. mdmn
