The National Nutrition Council – Region 10 will honor the Best Nutrition Program Implementing LGU’s in Northern Mindanao for the year 2015. Exemplary Local Government Units will be recognized during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) slated November 25, 2016 here in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event is anchored on the continuing campaign by NNC-X to encourage LGU’s to take part in its crusade to reduce, if not eliminate, malnutrition in region 10.
“Every LGU looks forward to the holding of the RNAC, second to July Nutrition Month, being an annual milestone which not only serves as a venue for recognizing the efforts of local government units in nutrition program management but of showcasing good practices on nutrition worthy of replication”, says NNC X Nutrition Program Coordinator Marissa D.M. Navales.
Being the primary agency commissioned to ensure nutritional adequacy for the people in the region, NNC-X is primarily mandated to plan, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the nutrition programs at the local level.
Core to the NNC-X Anti-Malnutrition Programs is the provision of technical assistance and relevant resources for the Provinces, Cities, Municipalities and Barangays in region 10, capacitating these LGU’s to strategize and implement Nutrition Programs in their respective localities.
Local Nutrition Programs implemented by the LGU’s are kept closely monitored and evaluated by NNC 10 through the annual Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI).
Factors such as proper utilization of nutrition resources and evident improvement of nutrition status of the constituents become the ultimate determinants of effective and efficient local food and nutrition plans and programs.
An LGU noted to exemplify best nutrition practices after comprehensive assessment during MELLPI will be conferred the GREEN BANNER AWARD by NNC. The award is given to municipality, city and/or province that administer the best practices in implementing its nutrition program.
NNC-10 Green Banner Awardees for the year 2015 are the Province of Misamis Occidental, Gingoog City and the Municipality of Manolo Fortich.
An LGU awarded the Green Banner Award for 3 consecutive years will merit the CONSISTENT REGIONAL OUTSTANDING WINNER IN NUTRITION (CROWN) AWARD. Gingoog City and Maramag Town of Bukidnon are 2015 CROWN Awardees.
Recipient of the CROWN award who steadily maintained diminishing malnutrition cases in their locality for 3 consecutive years will automatically qualify for Nutrition Honor Award – a national recognition,the highest accolade given by NNC.
To date Northern Mindanao has a remarkable record of 8 Nutrition Honor Awardees, proving NNC-X fervor in responding to its mandate. Nutrition champions like Ozamis City, Malaybalay City, Province of Bukidnon, Municipality of Libona, Municipality of Kadingilan, Municipality of Don Carlos and Municipality of Quezon (all Bukidnon Towns) and very recently, Valencia City, are testaments to NNC-X success.
“The success of producing high performing LGUs can be partly attributed to the capacity of NNC to influence local policy and programming through provision of quality technical assistance”, Navales added.
Northern Mindanao's Nutrition Honor Awardees (NHA) having sustained effective and efficient nutrition program management will be awarded REGIONAL AWARD OF MERIT. For 2015 the Province of Bukidnon,Malaybalay City, Kadingilan (Bukidnon), Quezon (Bukidnon) and Ozamiz City are recipients of Regional Award of Merit.
Aside from Green Banner and CROWN Awards, NNC-X will also confer the Provincial Green Banner Awardees and Barangay Green Banner Award to rightful LGUs.
Ms. Evangeline B. Galan of Panadtalan, Maramag, Bukidnon will accept her award as Northern Mindanao’s Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar for the year 2015.
Members of the Regional Nutrition Committee X spearheaded by its chairperson DOH Region 10 Director, Dr. Nimfa B. Torrizo are expected to grace the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. The Hon. Oscar Moreno, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker of the event.
NNC-X has gone far in its endeavor to eradicate malnutrition in Northern Mindanao Region. With the support and commitment accorded by the LGU’s and other stakeholders, the agency remain steadfast and optimistic that one day the whole of region 10 will be freed from the spate of malnutrition.
