1maramagGingoogArticlePostingTwo Normin LGUs – Maramag, Bukidnon and Gingoog City are gearing up for two Nutrition Awards this year.  The Municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon is one step away from the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) while the City of Gingoog vies for the first year CROWN Maintenance award. The National Evaluation Teams to undertake separate validation visits for Maramag and Gingoog City. 

Maramag, the lone contender for the 2016 NHA, is Northern Mindanao’s municipality with lowest prevalence on underweight among 0-71 months old children (0.63%) with a fully functional Municipal Nutrition Committee and increasing budget allocation for nutrition programs. 

 

Gingoog City continues to strive for “zero malnutrition” having decreased the prevalence of underweight among 0-71 months old children from 12.08% in 2008 to 4.1% in 2015. Among the successful nutrition programs of the City are: G4 (Garden of Go, Grow and Glow Foods), One-on-One Feeding Program, Pabasa sa Nutrisyon, livelihood assistance to families with malnourished children.

Should Maramag make it as 2016 NHA, the municipality will be NorMin’s eighth NHA. Gingoog City still has to hammer out nutrition efforts for the next two years to become NorMin’s next NHA.
