The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X together with its regional media group, Media Advocates for Nutrition in GOvernance in Region 10 or MANGO DIEZ, spearheaded a Short Filmmaking Contest which focused on the 2017 Nutrition Month celebration—“Healthy diet, gawing habit—FOR LIFE!”
The Short Filmmaking Contest aimed to increase awareness and promote the importance of healthy diets. The contest also aimed to create interest and discover creativity among college/university students in promoting the importance of consumption of healthy diet as a lifetime habit. College and university students in the region, as target contestants, were enjoined to participate through a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) 10 Regional Memorandum No. 034, s. 2017, “Short Film Making Contest in Celebration of the 2017 Nutrition Month” dated July 6, 2017.
In the span of the contest duration from July 6 to August 18, 2017, four (4) entries were gathered from different universities/colleges, namely:
- University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Cagayan de Oro City
- Fatima College of Camiguin (FCC), Mambajao, Camiguin
- Central Mindanao University (CMU), Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon
- Lourdes College, Cagayan de Oro City
Mechanics and Judging Committee, including Dr. Arlita Amapola B. Minguez as representative of CHED 10, deliberated last October 20, 2017 at The VIP Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. The committee further solicited insights from NNC X OIC-Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Gladys Mae S. Fernandez, considering that the short films are considered as NNC X property and shall be used for promotion of healthy diets.
Awarding and announcement of winners shall be dovetailed with the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony cum Regional PPAN 2017-2022 Launching on November 24, 2017. Winners shall receive plaques and cash prizes.
Hopes are high for NNC X and MANGO DIEZ to institutionalize the contest, make it open to a wider public range in 2018 and inspire others to utilize their talents to promote good nutrition for behavior change and better nutrition outcomes. smgt
