Governor Herminia M. Ramiro alarmed over the iodine deficiency disorder situation of Misamis Occidental issued in March 23, 2015 Executive Order 12-2015 on the “Organization of the Provincial Bantay Asin Task Force” to ensure the supply and distribution of only adequate iodized salt within the province. The action came following the conduct of the Regional Bantay Asin Task Force Forum aimed at strengthening the implementation of the R.A 8172 commonly known as the “ASIN Law”.
According to the 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST), Misamis Occidental registered 94 µg/L UIE level of among 6-12 years old children indicating mild iodine deficiency.
The E.O aims to manage and coordinate the National Salt Iodization Program (NSIP), lead in advocacy in the province for the effective implementation of the ASIN LAW including ensuring sustainable support to the program. Gov. Ramiro also ordered the monitoring and evaluation of program implementation to immediately address the malnutrition problem of the province. hge
