19 July 2019, Cagayan de Oro City – Northern Mindanao’s Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) Rose N. Alipoyo of Brgy. Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City was among the finalists for the Search for National OBNS, declared by NNC Central Office. National Evaluation Team members Jasmine Anne DF. Tandingan from Nutrition Surveillance Division - NNC Central Office and Divine Grace Domingo of UP Los Baños evaluated BNS Alipoyo last 18-19 July 2019.
The NET paid courtesy call to City Nutrition Chair and Mayor Oscar S. Moreno together with the city and Brgy. Kauswagan nutrition workforce, including NNC X led by NPC Gladys Mae Fernandez. Afterwhich, a program was held to welcome the evaluators in Brgy. Kauswagan.
The evaluation process for the 2-day activity involved review of Barangay Nutrition Committee and BNS documents using the MELLPI Pro tool for BNSs (70%), exam (20%) and interview (10%). Punong Barangay Pedro Balite and other barangay officials, including City Nutrition and NNC X staff expressed their support to BNS Alipoyo throughout the conduct of M & E.
NET members provided initial feedback of results and findings as well as recommendations derived from the evaluation as conclusion of the activity. NPC Fernandez, City Nutrition Office staff and the BNC members likewise gave insights and inputs during the feedbacking session.
Among BNS Alipoyo’s notable feats are intensive campaign on food gardening, development of local IEC materials, the UMA (Utanon Matag Adlaw), feeding of pregnant and lactating women and proper/transparent documentation of resource generation activities.
BNS Alipoyo, in her interview with the RNET, believes that she possesses the core values of a Barangay Nutrition Scholar. She further recognizes the contribution and inputs of their BNC members as experts in their own fields which enables her and the rest of the nutrition staff to execute their functions in delivering quality nutrition services in Brgy. Kauswagan. BNS Alipoyo acts as the Barangay Nutrition Action Officer in their Barangay, leading seven (7) other BNSs in action.
Out of 12 entries, a total of six (6) finalists are vying for the title as the country’s outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar for the year 2018.
Winner and finalists for the Search for NOBNS will be lauded during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on 30 August 2019 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City. (NO II Sheena Marie G. Talle)
